Girls Athena Soccer

The Quest girls program has established itself as one of the top girls programs in the state of Georgia and in USYSA Region III. For 2003/2004, the girls program offers 15 Athena teams starting at U12 and continuing to U18. This year we had three teams that are competing in the Region III Premier League. We also have six Athena teams playing in the “A” division, five in the “B” division, and two in the “C” in the local GYSA state league. For the younger players 8-12 years old, we have the very successful Quest Athena Academy which is beginning its third year. United Quest welcomes you to attend try-outs in late spring or contact Dave Smith, Girls Director of Coaching, regarding any questions about the Quest girls' select program.

Girls Director of Coaching

Dave Smith has coached top level youth soccer in Georgia for eleven years. Since beginning to coach youth soccer in Georgia, his teams have reached eleven state final games, winning eight titles, and reaching the Regional III finals three times. He has coached more than 100 players that have gone on to play in college, with the US National team program, and with professional teams both in the US and abroad. Under Dave’s direction the girls’ program at Quest has three teams competing in the Region III Premier League, and in the GYSA state league Quest girls have; six teams in the “A” division, five in the “B” division and two in the “C”. The Quest girls are also well represented in the ODP program with over 40 State team players, 6 Region players, and currently (2003) four National Pool players (Elizabeth Jobe ‘85, Lynn Murray ‘85, Katie Vogel ‘88, Colleen Hurley ‘89). In 2001, Dave began the Quest Athena Academy at United for U10 girls to train with professional coaching and participate in the state's new U10 developmental league. This program is the pipeline for the future stars at Quest.

Program Goals

  • Create a non-stress atmosphere where Quest U10 players are exposed to the game with an emphasis on skill development.

  • Create an environment where players are allowed to flourish in a competitive arena in which winning is not a determinant of success, where the instillation of quality is more important than short-term success.

  • Educate the Quest players and parents in the development process and club values.

  • Create the needed flexibility in the program rules in which teaching takes precedence over game administration. The only outcomes measured are learning and fun and not scores and standings.

Program Rules

  1. All players will be registered through the state and have birthday of not later than July 31, 1993.

  2. All players will be evaluated for the purpose of placing them in the appropriate developmental program.
  3. Training will be conducted by nationally licensed coach and have a curriculum approved by the state Director of coaching.
  4. Scheduling of games will be conducted through the Directors of Coaching and travel will be minimized.
  5. Clubs will be allowed to move players between teams when developmental needs dictate.
  6. Players will receive a written evaluation twice per season charting their progress and individual development plans will be provided to the parents.
  7. Participation in the Developmental League will preclude players from participation in the Recreation and Premier Program.
  8. Teams may travel and participate in tournaments.
  9. Conduct of coaches and players will be held to the standards specified by GYSA.

  10. Clubs participating will provide a minimum of three teams and have a Director of Coaching responsible for organization.
